President's Post: want to save the world?

Published: February 29, 2016 by Gail Richards, president and CEO

So many people say they want to save the world. Just try your block, will you? – Rev. Cecil Williams

JCCF was set up to help Johnson County and its local communities grow and thrive. Our mission is to help people establish charitable funds, to make life better in the communities they love. While financial support is always a great way to help JCCF and other organizations deliver much needed programs and services, there are many simple, non-financial ways you can assist people in your community. Don’t delay getting involved in your community no matter what your resources might be.

Examples include:

  • Supervise children at community programs.
  • Teach someone how to read.
  • Form a neighborhood snow-shoveling or grass-cutting group.
  • Offer to drive other people to places they need to be.
  • Train somebody to use a computer.
  • Serve refreshments to runners at local charity races.
  • Tutor children.
  • Teach ESL (English as a second language) to non-English speakers.
  • Organize community barbecues, fun days for kids, bake-offs, contests, and gatherings.
  • Direct a school play.
  • Put in some time at a local food pantry.
  • Design a visual arts class.
  • Read to the ill or visually-impaired.
  • Baby-sit for a parent in your community who needs an afternoon or evening off.
  • Take part in adult literacy programs.
  • Create floral arrangements for a local senior center, nursing home, or hospital.
  • Research volunteer opportunities and offer assistance.

It doesn’t take a million dollars to make a difference in your community. I have no doubt that you can make a impact on your block with what you have to offer. Connect with a cause that matters to you today!

A special thanks to our Platinum Community Partners!
