Three hours of digging dry dirt

Cayman's Volunteer Adventure Blog – Day 1

For my first official volunteering of the summer I got to help out our friends at the Johnson County Museum of History. The museum provides the public with knowledge of our past historical events. Their purpose it to collect, preserve, interpret and promote the material culture of the Johnson County Region. It is also free to the public so be sure to stop in!

My tasks for the day did not consist of anything at the museum. Instead we headed out to Stones Crossing and State Road 135 in Greenwood.

Once we arrived the real job started. We spent three hours digging three feet into the dry dirt. After our three hours of digging and an hour of positioning a large, metal post, we finally completed our project. With the help of two supervisors and three other interns, we have now placed a landmark indicator by the Taco Bell on Stones Crossing.

Project complete. Check back soon for details on my next volunteering adventure.
