A gift that keeps on giving

Published: February 28, 2013 by Kim Minton, vice president of development

We make all kinds of contributions in our everyday lives.

A dollar bill in the red bucket during Christmas helps feed a needy family. A raffle ticket funds a young band member’s trip to Disney World.

There are gifts, though, that can impact your community beyond your lifetime.

The Johnson County Community Foundation provides an opportunity for people who want to leave such an enduring contribution.

The Legacy Society was established to recognize individuals who have named the Johnson County Community Foundation (JCCF) as a beneficiary of a planned gift, a gift that will continue at the end of their lifetime. For example, this gift may be in the form of a will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance or perhaps a lifetime income gift.

Individuals who make planned gifts play a key role in securing the future of JCCF and become members of the Legacy Society. These gifts are permanent since the principal is not used in grantmaking.

Legacy Society members receive special invitations to events, updates on foundation giving news, and are honored in publications and in other ways.

We are deeply grateful for these gifts and support that allow us to continue connecting people who care with causes that matter.

With careful planning, Legacy Society members often can make a much more significant gift than imagined and can often realize substantial tax benefits.

Ed and Denise Parsley are Legacy Society members who have established a fund in memory of their son, Blair.

“We understand what it takes to keep Blair’s scholarship self-supporting, and we wanted to make sure that when we are gone that Blair’s scholarship would be fully funded. Not only will his memory never die, but others that share Blair’s love for flying will benefit from this scholarship for years to come,” said Denise Parsley.

The Legacy Society is a great way to stay connected and to continue giving so that your community can benefit for years to come. Please contact me at the JCCF office for more details about our Legacy Society.

A special thanks to our Platinum Community Partners!
