Featured Fund: The Daniel P. Mercer Family Fund

The Daniel P. Mercer Family Fund was established in 2006 shortly after the passing of Daniel Patrick Mercer, a Franklin Community High School senior. Thousands of dollars were donated to assist Daniel and the Mercer family during his battle with brain cancer. The majority of those dollars donated were used to establish a Pass Thru fund for short term donations and an Endowed fund for long term sustainability.
The broad fund objectives were to provide financial support for various programs benefiting youth, as well as initiatives in and around the Franklin community. The Daniel Mercer Pass Thru account has funded the publishing of a children’s book, Common Ground, written by Franklin students and teachers. To date, over 2,500 copies of the book have been donated to area schools and churches. Since 2007, the Family Fund has honored over 1000 Franklin students with its annual “Set a Good Example” awards to students at Franklin Community High School and Middle School. In addition, the Fund provides annual support for the Helen Jewell/Martha Baker Support Staff awards through Franklin Schools, an annual Indiana Bulls baseball scholarship, the Scott Rolen E5 Foundation which is focused on critically ill children and their families, and various Franklin Community High School athletic programs.
In 2009 the Daniel Mercer Memorial Golf Outing was initiated to assist with ongoing funding for both the funds. In 2020 the target goal for the Endowed Fund was reached which will insure the Fund will continue into perpetuity. The Mercer family is greatly appreciative for the ongoing support in honoring Daniel’s memory through these very worthwhile initiatives.
