The Chair Declares: Stepping into the next 30 years

Published: April 11, 2022 by Elaine Pesto, board chair

Last year, the Johnson County Community Foundation celebrated 30 years of giving back to our community! What a proud stepping stone-one that will continue to launch us forward for many more years to come. We could not be more proud of the financial growth we have gained over these 30 years. We have gone from nearly nothing to our current $40 million in assets! We thank each and every person and business who has contributed to the Foundation, enabling us to provide grants, scholarships and donations to well-deserving businesses and students in Johnson County.

Involvement in our community has been one of our driving factors in establishing our financial stability. As leader of the 2022 Johnson County Community Foundation Board of Directors, I have challenged our team to step up a little, designing creative ways to engage with our entire county. Engagement is our mantra for 2022.

Giving back to the community is in my blood. My parents were deeply involved with community service in my hometown of Bloomington, Indiana. Both volunteered at our parish church and school. My dad gave of his time as a coach in several different sports for different age levels. He was also active in Sertoma, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, and Bloomington Junior League. Mom participated in multiple service organizations as well: Sertoma Wives, Church of Women United, and Tri Kappa to name a few.

I’m excited and honored to help lead the Johnson County Community Foundation forward in our effort to engage with our entire Johnson County community. Keep checking our social media channels, website, and emails. We are on the move in 2022 and will be coming to your community sometime soon!
